It's been 3 years since 03.11 and I still remember how everyone was calling and texting me to check the news at 5 am Chicago time. The Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami impacted a lot of lives, and still does today.
Across the world, our hearts went out to those who were affected and suffering, and many people and many groups have stepped up to do what they could to help. Back in December 2011, I was fortunate enough to spend a couple of days with It's Not Just Mud, a group that is still doing work in the region.
This is what some of the clean up work looked like:
However, there's still around 267,000 people still living in temporary shelters and makeshift housing across Japan, and about 97,000 in the region. It's been a slow process overall.
For many, the pain still lingers and remains. For the rest of us, let's do what we can. Some have created anime that is based in the region. Others can, and still do help when they can.
At the very least, reach out to your family and friends, and don't wait 10 years to tell them how you feel about them.
