Round 3, Game 4: Chicago 93, Miami 101 -

If you selectively looked at the box score, you may have seen may promising stats:

A 26-15 advantage in fast break points.
A 44-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Deng and Boozer scoring 20 points each.
Runs of 19-4, 15-5 and 9-0

But here's the stats that hurt:

22 turnovers
32-38 free throw shooting by Miami (compared to 17-22 for Chicago)
10 shots blocked by Miami
16-32 shooting from 16-23 feet by Miami

And worst of all:

The Bulls certainly made some adjustments which led to some easier transition points, but most of the contact at the rim was ruled as vertical, where similar contact by the Heat seemed to result in free throw attempts more times than not.

They looked to stretch the Heat defense, by looking for 3 pointers when they could, but neither Rose or Bogans could hit.

By The Horns has an excellent recap.

In the end, brilliant James decided to make an appearance. The LeBron James that makes things look so effortless. (If only he would try more often than he would). Defensively, he was a beast that made use of his combination of size, speed and strength to force Rose out of his comfort zone.

Also, the Heat got a surprise contribution from Mike Miller this game. If the Bulls are going to have a chance in Game 5, they'll need a big game from their MVP, or from an unlikely source. The Bulls had more than enough chances to win (the Rose free throw, plus the two mid range jumpers at the end of the 4th.)

It's a game at a time now. It's still a race to win four games first. The margin of error is now gone.

There's nothing guaranteed in this world. If you have a shot to make the Finals, make the Finals.

Three keys for Game 5:
1) No early foul trouble for Deng.
2) Early easy scoring (transition, hit open 3s, free throws).
3) If Rose doesn't get at least double digit free throw attempts or double digit assists, the result of the game will speak for itself.
